Hi, I'm Mike

I’m a Scalability Consultant passionate about helping recruitment entrepreneurs realize their dreams of creating a scalable recruitment business without the OVERWHELM.

Here's how I got here

In April 1989 I started my first recruitment business, Software Knowledge, with two other partners. I had 6 months recruitment experience.

In 1990, following the tragic passing of one partner, I became MD. 

I worked like a dog, and built a business with me at the centre. We capped out. I had a mini-breakdown.

My remaining partner tricked me into seeing a consultant and that consultant changed my world.

I saw all the mistakes I had made. Putting myself at the centre of the business limited us. So we set out to redesign the business, utterly focused on scalability.

We succeeded. By 1998 We’d grown SK it into a £40m IT services and recruitment group. No external investment. No acquisitions. 

I then sold SK to a NYSE listed company for £24m. (£43m in todays money)

Retired, and bored, I started another recruitment business, Crimson, in 2001. We sold that in 2017 for a headline price of £15m. 

I learnt a lot of lessons from both those sales. I wrote some of them up for anyone selling to avoid my (expensive) mistakes
